Topics We Do NOT Accept
To maintain the integrity and trustworthiness of our content, the following types of submissions will be automatically declined. Please review this list before pitching.
- Purely promotional content — Articles that exist solely to market a product, service, or brand. We value education over advertising.
- Unverified health claims — Medical advice or health claims that lack supporting peer-reviewed research, veterinary consensus, or credible citations.
- Breed-specific aggression promotion — Content that characterizes entire breeds as inherently dangerous or promotes breed-specific discrimination or legislation.
- Content promoting aversive training methods — Articles endorsing punishment-based techniques, prong collars, shock collars, alpha/dominance theory, or any method that causes pain, fear, or intimidation.
- Duplicate or plagiarized content — All submissions must be 100% original and unpublished. We run every article through plagiarism detection tools before publication.
Content Requirements
Every article published on Master Your Dog meets our rigorous quality standards. Please ensure your submission checks every box below before sending it our way.
- Minimum 1,500 words — We publish comprehensive, in-depth articles that thoroughly cover their topic. Most of our top-performing articles fall in the 2,000–3,500 word range. Shorter pieces rarely provide the depth our readers expect.
- Original, unpublished content only — Your article must not have been previously published on any other website, blog, or platform. We also cannot accept articles that are scheduled or queued for publication elsewhere.
- Science-backed with citations — Claims about canine behavior, health, or training efficacy must be supported by references to peer-reviewed studies, veterinary guidelines, or recognized professional bodies (e.g., AVSAB, APDT).
- No promotional links (1 author bio link allowed) — The article body must be free of self-promotional, affiliate, or sponsored links. You are permitted one dofollow link in your author bio section that points to your professional website or social profile.
- Professional tone — Write in a warm yet authoritative voice. Avoid overly casual language, slang, or jargon without explanation. Our readers range from first-time dog owners to experienced handlers, so clarity is paramount.
- Proper grammar and formatting — Submissions should use clear heading hierarchy (H2, H3), short paragraphs, bullet points where appropriate, and be free of grammatical errors. We recommend running your draft through a grammar checker before submitting.
